Dynamics 365 Outlook Client Not Rendering Views After September 2018 Update

The 5th September 2018 Office 365 update has stopped the Dynamics 365 Outlook client from rendering views.

This is not resolved by the ‘EnableRoamingFolderHomepages’ registry key that fixed a similar issue after the October update.

To get it working again, you’ll need to roll back to the previous update, then turn off automatic updates until it is resolved:

See the edit at the bottom for a better workaround!

Rollback the update

To roll back to the previous update, run the below from a command prompt

"%programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.10325.20118

Note: You can get the previous update versions numbers from here

The Augst update will now be applied. It took around 10 minutes to download and install on my machine.

Re-open Outlook once the update has completed and it should be resolved

Disable Automatic Office Updates

Click on File\Office Account\Update Options and choose ‘Disable Updates’.

This will prevent the update from being reinstalled, however, it will also block future updates. Hopefully Microsoft will fix the issue soon and it can be re-enabled.

Edit: Better workaround

In Outlook, go to File\Options\General and set ‘Optimize for compatability’
